My Enemies List
As social media grows and matures, Enemy Lists will come to be seen as important -- nay, even MORE important than Friend Lists! Many social media force you to make friends list with people you don't particularly like, just so they can see your content and send you stuff. I think we need good, robust enemies list so that while reading and consuming social media, we can see what motivates people to make the kind of comments they do. Indeed, I'm suggesting three tiers of enemies so that we can locate and analyze people's speech about others in a context where they may be indulging in vengeance or campaigns of harassment.
When you see people's very short enemies' list -- you suddenly begin to put into context what seems like a chorus of haters and vilifiers -- you realize it only takes a few to poison a well, and feign that their numbers are legion.
1st Tier Enemies -- Not only do they post the most vituperative commentary about you, they viciously stalk you around the Internet, posting everywhere you post to try to smear your reputation, finding you where you live -- even in real life! They ferret out RL data and use it to vilify you; they post outright falsehoods. These types of enemies loathe your very being and want you gone from the Internet -- they aren't just kvetching about one beef. Beware!
2nd Tier Enemies -- They have a private grudge, a vengeance over some imagined or even real slight, and they post on your blog or on their own blogs against you, or ban you from their blogs, but they don't really cross the street to harass you. They won't be calling you in RL, thank God! And they are unlikely to keep researching you to try to come up with "dirt".
3rd Tier Enemies -- These types privately slam you and condemn you and keep you off the lists of the best parties, but they may even feign friendship or even fail to ban you from land or blogs. They may dis you -- then pretend to apologize. They can often have the most deadly influence, but until you catch them in the act, don't put them in 1st Tier -- they may be able to be converted to friends!
1st Tier
FlipperPA Peregrine
Jennyfur Peregrine
Ian Betteridge
Csven Concord
Benjamin Duranske
Cristiano Midnight
Joshua Nightshade
Dan Hunter
Hamlet Au
Aimee Weber
Plastic Duck
Hiro Pendragon
2nd Tier
Tony Walsh
Pixeleen Mistral
Mark Wallace
Nobody Fugazi
3rd Tier
Andrew Linden REMOVED 8/07 REVIEW
Pathfinder Linden
Chadrick Linden REMOVED 8/24 FOR SUCCESSFULLY FULFILLING STRATEGIC SL LEVEL 60 QUEST AND BEATING THE BOSS
I'll give this list some more thought, but meanwhile, consider that most people who hate me don't end up on MY enemies list; I may not like them, but they won't get any special "hate" treatment from me. Meanwhile, their recurring hate problem and vilification of me only subtracts from their own reputations.

Can't I get a double entry under both Mark Wallace and Walker Spaight?
Posted by: Walker Spaight | August 04, 2007 at 09:14 PM
you really suck.

If Mark gets two I want two too. But not a tu-tu; those aren't nearly as funny as this.
What about the tag? I know my dark secrets. But is Hamlet a griefer, a scammer, or a criminal?

Whats wrong with Plastic Duck? Personnally, I feel that he's an upstanding member of the community, and just because you cry yourself to sleep over him, doesn't mean anyone else cares.

This a very good article. In particular, your 1st Tier reminds me a lot of the modern JLU tactics. Good work.

Crap, I'll go you one better: "We will do something terrible to you — deprive you of your enemy." Georgy Arbatov to NATO.
If you're jealous that you didn't make my enemies list -- keep trying! There's always the next iteration.
And it goes without saying that this list is people who became antagonistic to me, and made me their enemy -- like Aimee Weber famously issued her first fatwah, saying "Aimee Hates You". The list is merely a handy guide to understand why people write about me with such vitriol; they've made me an enemy, and because they're obsessed, their characterizations need to be taken with a grain of salt.
It's a short list.
Walker Spaight used to be a friend; I rather liked Walker. He is no more; Mark Wallace obliterated him.

You sad fuck prokofy lol Put yourself down as 'omni tier'.
1st tier explaination should read:
People that actually dont sit on their asses, giving abuse and slander 24/7. And, actually do something with their second life besides writting shoddy editoral about MORE THINGS TO BITCH ABOUT, by Prokofy Neva.
You communist! lol

I'm very proud to say that 4 of the 11 people on your 1st tier enemies list are on my SL friends list. Cristiano, Flip, Jenn and Joshua. I'd be honored to add the rest. <3 <3

What utterly childish and sadly predictable behavior.

Have you ever stopped to analyze your list of friends in the same manner? Not aquaintences or associates but actual friends. If that list isn't at least comparable in length to this one, then something is severely out of balance in your life, perhaps.
Posted by: Allana Dion | August 05, 2007 at 01:08 PM
So true Rhys...
thing is, Prokofy is the FIRST person to complain about griefers, shes nothing BUT one herself, just a sad self-glorified one.
You try and make yourself sound of some what importance with his post, but you have to remind yourself of something.... Noone likes you.
"but they won't get any special "hate" treatment from me." - I like how you have to mention that people that arnt well known wont be given the time of day from you though lolol kinda makes you out to be a satanic glory seeker, trying to get attention because of your shitty slander towards the people that actually try to make a difference. lol.
You truely are the worst griefer of them all, you sad, lonely old fart. lol

Damn it. I have to try harder.

Allana, my list of friends is far, far longer, even allowing for 3 tiers.
That's my point. My enemies' list is short -- and it's made up of people who deliberately antagonize me; treat me badly; behave like shit; ban me, etc. None of that is necessary; it's *their* behaviour that puts them on an enemies list, whereby they are antagonistic to me, not my behaviour.
That's just it -- very few people go to the incredible extremes of obsessiveness and hate that the people on this list go to. It speaks volumes about them : )
I fail to see how any of these people "try to make a difference". Most of them are heavily preoccupied with their own vanity projects.

Much like yourself with this post then lol

Don't you think there are things that are much more important to freak out about? Maybe your energies would be better spent on things like this:
This year malaria will strike up to a half billion people. At least a million will die, most of them under age five, the vast majority living in Africa. That's more than twice the annual toll a generation ago.
Posted by: Redhead | August 05, 2007 at 02:46 PM
So, you're saying there's a good chance malaria might strike my enemies, then? Well, I don't want them to *die* -- I'm just pointing out that they behave terribly to me, and made me an enemy. It's their call.
Certain ones of them have become more quiescent, like Aimee Weber, but it's not lost on me that they tacitly prop up the more active ones like Joshua or Jennyfur.
Posted by: Prokofy Neva | August 05, 2007 at 02:53 PM
*sigh*
No, what I'm saying is that there are much more important things in this world than you.
Who you like and dislike is meaningless in the big picture.
I'm sure any one of the people that live in areas infested with antibiotic resistant malaria would trade places with you in a heart beat. I'm sure they would love to have your "problems".
Instead of screaming about how you are being mistreated, why not focus your energies on helping people that really do have problems?
Posted by: Redhead | August 05, 2007 at 03:06 PM
If you perceive any of my actions as antagonistic or attacking, I humbly apologize and take back the offending remarks.
I agree with many - not all, but many - of the observations you make on the state of the grid, and hopefully the Lindens are at least taking heed of some of the signs you're pointing out.
Take care.
Posted by: Crap Mariner | August 05, 2007 at 04:30 PM
Thanks, Crap. Do note that you're not on the enemies list. Kind of hard to put someone on an enemies list when a) you don't know them and b) all they've done is swiped nastily at you claiming you said "you know" too much in a pod-cast. Sorry, that's not enemy material.
The reality is, people who are on this list are on this list because of THEIR bad behaviour, not mine. I hope this list helps bring about greater awareness of this problem. If you ban, mute, harass, stalk, hate, vilify other people, you can expect them not only to do the same thing back, you can expect to wind up on an "enemies" list.
And you'll be right back taking low potshots tomorrow anywhere you can, Crap, and I see through your little sociological experiment : )
Posted by: Prokofy Neva | August 05, 2007 at 04:48 PM
Hilarious as usual, Pruella. You're better at making up enemies than every government combined. :D
Posted by: Squeedoo S. | August 05, 2007 at 05:15 PM
Prokofy, seriously, don't you ever wonder what causes people to behave towards you in the way that they do? I know you blame it all squarely on them, but surely it takes two to start an argument. And when so many voice their displeasure about your behaviour you must realize that somehow, somewhere, part of the cause is you.
There may well be people which hate me and I can see clearly why they would. I know I can be irritating, trivial, superficial and also rude and blunt. And I tend to forget who people are and details about them all the time.
I wonder... are you at all capable of seeing your own faults?
