It's bad enough, when you rent dirt-cheap self-service rentals for $100 Lindens a week (that's about 36 cents) -- 4 weeks for 10 percent discount off, which is therefore $1.32 Lindens a month (!) with 90 prims and a nice house, that people just don't read the info card in the rental box. You would think that the first thing they'd do would be to click on the box, and when they do that, they see a blue menu that says INFO and they would click INFO and get the card.
If they did that, they would get this information:

If for some reason, they missed that info card -- some do -- you would think that if you *told them in chat directly in person in real time* that they had to join the group to set prims -- and they had a birthdate of 2006, even not having "played the game for two years," that they would figure to join the group. If they saw their furniture coming back, they might think, maybe I should read the info card?
But not only did they miss this help card on site and real-time tip, they also missed YET ANOTHER card pushed to them AGAIN with "FAQs" that explained that furniture returns, you have to join the group. I am redundant that way -- I actually have FIVE WAYS people are told the same thing because they really do keep missing it -- so that after someone has paid and I've talked to them, I send them a FAQs card too to reiterate it.
On some of my rental boxes, I even put hover texts JOIN THE GROUP TO PREVENT FURNITURE RETURN but then the rental box is stuck with that big hover text after being paid so it's a bit annoying.
OK, so if I've told people three ways, and they still don't get it, you would think, ok, if they joined the HELP group I provide which has only other tenants in it most of the time (I'm not always on line) that they'd get it THAT way.
I also expect that if I tell someone there's a cancellation fee in real time, in chat, but that they get it back manually if they move to another rental -- which they said they were going to do -- that I would not be getting a rage attack over...25 Lindens. That's, um...let's see...less than a dime? If I were dealing with a newbie, I might feel I should return them that dime for their frustration, even having helped them, and even having after pushing cards.
What I really, really hate though, is not just this stupidity of not reading things given you three ways. That I understand. That's normal. What I really, really hate are the following two things, as I've said before in other Rental Dementia columns:
o People who assume evil of me, people who assume I'm not helping and that I'm at fault and that I'm not trying to solve their problem and that I've done something out of ill will on purpose, i.e. stolen their furniture.
o People who think that "because it's game" that I should just do everything for free and with a smile, and that nothing should ever cost anything, and that everyone should wait on them hand and foot as if they were at Club Med with shells for play money or something.
I really, really hate that attitude. Within two hours of a rental payment, I've gone and put someone's name in the door to lock it. Actually, I always make sure to erase people's names out of doors when someone leaves precisely because I try to avoid a newbie or any new tenant coming to a locked door. I find with the doors that aren't run on the chat command, however, but are run on the configured notecard, tend to require resetting the entire prim even after erasing the name to end their "locked" status. What an annoyance, because that can change the shape of the door back to its original standard size and you have to refit it on a custom door.
So anyway, you can tell from the first IM here that this is a problem person. They are starting in with the "I want my money back" like "you are ripping me off" because...they haven't read the card that says they have to IM me to lock the door (you would think that reason would enable them to know that meant UNLOCK the door, but it doesn't, which is actually why on many cards, I write "unlock/lock" doors and even have kiosks scattered around in some rental areas that say DON'T GET FRUSTRATED! and explain that the doors are locked and don't magically open with payment.
(Some rentals have a system where after you pay, the manager sends you a group manually, and then *as a member of that closed group* your door magically opens as it is set to group only. But with an open group that people can join themselves without having to wait for a manager, I don't have that system and I have to add their names manually.)
