So Second Life was in a tempest in a chainik on reddit the other day -- for a day or two -- and so gosh, some screenshot of a griefer's sim got like 200,000 views! And there were ... 845 comments! And even my blog got several thousand more views than it normally does! Weee!
But then everybody forgot about the fact that some griefers tried to do a little defeat tap dance and get people on their side, and try to get a vandalism of Wikipedia, to the effect that "Linden Lab expels universities and gamers" (like...that's what it's really all about!) and moved on to Pandaria or whatever that new WoW version is called.
Griefing on the grid today may or may not be payback for that but lost in all the trash talk and self-justifying QQing -- well, wait, let Lordfly describe it:
The rest of this is just neckbearding basement-dwelling trollery with alts and counter-alts and counter-hyper alts and intrigue and irc channels and chat logs and reddit threads and indignant outrage and how dare you and I will call my internet lawyer and you're all in trouble.
(I have to agree with Cristiano for once that that *is* the best post evah!)
But lost in all that was the interesting fact that the griefers broke ranks. Now, we know that they always squabble among themselves, but this time, curiously, a few of them blurted out the truth quite bluntly. Even they get tired of their banal antics.
There were some anonymouses on the reddit thread hinting that it was all a troll of sorts, but then on the Alphaville Herald, where, as Uri says, the truth always comes out in the comments, there was this reference to the "Queen Mary strategy".
The Queen Mary is reference to a WWII boat in a California harbour where the griefers had their alternative "SLCC" -- i.e. some of the more pathetic remnants of Woodbury and the Herald, which never comes out anymore, drank themselves into a stupor over the weekend, and cooked up a plot.
The plot seemed to be to piss on the Lindens' parade with their new Steam thing, then see how long they could go before being banned -- whereupon they would kick up a fuss on social media and make it seem like LL was repressing creativity and fanboy copies of game items.
So with that plan working more or less as soppily conceived on the Queen Mary, the loudmouths on Twitter with day-old accounts and nobody they're following except me (like "Maria Scripps") claim that now LL has suffered a "PR disaster". Nonsense.
As two of the hardcore goons tell us, it's all Tizzers' fault again.
First Robble Rubble tattles:

And Hissy's friends should really not gone around telling people that they were Tiz. People might get the wrong idea!

It's almost like they WANTED the sim to get banned for some reason or another...
|
[6/26/2012 2:59:58 AM] Tizzers Foxchase: Well at least we're seeing the general sentiment about Second Life on r/gaming. Good to know they hate Second Life.

[6/26/2012 3:00:53 AM] Tizzers Foxchase: We could almost just pull the sim and be like LINDEN LAB BANNED REDDIT and create this hyped angry bandwagon that Linden Lab would be really confused about.
Yeah, "hyped angry bandwagon" is exactly what they created, and that's exactly the term for it.
Then, Economic Engineer, who is Jim Korpov respawned, who had already exposed Tizzers on Twitter, in reply to a comment on the Herald piece, spills the beans as well:
|
And the Alphaville after ages of no news wrote about it Linden Lab Nukes Sandvich Sim | The Alphaville Herald
a very colourful article about a popular sim being shut down by the
JLU, honestly i´m laughing cause they don´t even pretend to report news
at this point.
I´m no JLU fan but it´s certainly not Vekman´s fault there is a thread on Reddit about this, and as for the percieved popularity of the sim, that´s questionable at best. ETA: I can´t believe i agreed with GLE´s comment, is like hell is freezing over. |
So that about clinches it -- it was a put-up job.
Even so, as the caravan moves on and the dogs are barking, there are some dogs that didn't bark, and I think there is still more to this story than meets the eye.
For one, Pixeleen, who usually blasts me with venomous and malicious lies, missed an opportunity to blame me for abuse-reporting the Woodburies again or even being involved in this story. I'm not even mentioned. Well, in fact, I *am* a minor character because I merely visited twice, and abuse-reported once for the obscenities and the alt abuse, not for the rip off of game art because I didn't recognize the games , I don't play them.
The JLU figures prominently again -- that's just the Herald and co. griefer gang trying to stir up the whole "Wrong Hands" type story of yesteryear -- but it fails because nothing more ever came of it and it was obviously the goons who were permabanned, not the spandex-clad set.
Why is Kalel described as "falling for a trap"? Was the banning of the Steam sim a distraction from some other thing or just a ruse to create a reddit thread?
Then, there's the curious references to a "real-life fuck-up" for Tizzers and some connection to Hollywood made by a new poster named "Valiant Res":
the tuxwinkier afk presence was definitely NOT tux and merely another
long standing second life alt creator doing it for the lulz and because
he is autistically challenged
the jlu had nothing to do with this; spandex or no spandex
it wasnt DMCA anything as key metrics clearly reveal and have been duly mentioned by the thoughful
it was in fact what some here have pointed out - -a duality scheme, an
attempt to keep "playing" for as long as possible with acceptable
outcomes in sight; lose the sim and make a big stink about it or keep on
"playing" and hindering ones personal growth
jordan punched the clock hard on this sim so jim saying this was a
sideline thing shows complete ignorance of the facts. just ask jordan,
no i am serious, just ask jordan
all who have referred to the "deluded" characterization are absolutely correct
everyone that scratches their heads about jordans MO in the midst of a real life fiasco are keen to the obvious
the hollywood connection in this all is rather entertaining for all the not so obvious reasons..
im a wealth of info on this topic
feel free to ask
theres a ton more
Everyone then feigns supreme indifference and vast boredom, and one suspects that the "ton more" involves Tizzers' biz partner doing more than pretending not to care and going off to play WoW and not a lot else.
Is this one of those "fear of failure/fear of success" spasms whereby Tizzers who supposedly once worked for Pixar had some gig set up, possibly even related to the Steam thing, and ruined it by getting the sim banned? It's not clear whether this RL biz, swiping the more famous coffee company's name, and using a vaguely Soviet name, of course, is anything more than just two guys in a Starbucks without even Philip for a friend to pay for the lattes.
Then on Twitter, there's the protestations -- hardly believable -- of that RL biz partner, Chris Toumanian, who keeps spouting angrily that his real-life name and his avatar are linked on here...as if they weren't on Twitter already. Chris pretends to be perturbed at all this "stalking" and "hating" around Tizzers, and I suppose it's possible he didn't realize the extent of the digital sickness of his RL business partner but... I don't think so. My guess, he's in on it.
And here's another Woodbury coming to dump on Tizzers -- with at least three of them, you have to figure it's a ploy, or a faction fight, or something...
Nebula, who describes himself as a "former griefer", says:
Alphavile Herald is butt hurt
Linden Lab Nukes Sandvich Sim | The Alphaville Herald
In before any woodbury people show up and claim they didn't know, because I will be more than happy to post pictures. Seems to be like the herald is a little butt hurt that their friends lost their sim for breaking the rules.

Pretty much the same crap they pulled to get the Emerald viewer banned, Yawn.

I am surprised anyone is still bothering to grief SL. And I was sure there was no SLCC this year...

Prok's last sentence pretty much says it all.
"There likely will be more on this but it will likely be not very interesting."
