So sadly, it is true, and wasn't a rumour spread by evil Prok who "always lies".
Oskar Linden really was fired, and here it is in his own words, verified with a screenshot, as it were.
It was a surprise Skype call with the manager of my department and HR. At the same moment all my accounts were locked and I was told a courier was on the way to my house to take my laptop. This is standard operating procedure at the Lab. The reasons given were quite vague, but at the root of it was complaints from a griefer who I had banned from a private testing sandbox that I managed after he was harassing people and threatening to crash them and the region.
Well, as I said before, I await the other side of this story, if there is one. But the curious casual attitude -- and even protective attitude -- toward griefers at the Lab is one of course I could tell you a lot about.
Oskar goes on to say:
To be quite honest this has all come as a surprise and a shock. I have known for a while that this would happen eventually though. All Lindens fear 'the skype call'.
Read the rest here, and comment if you aren't banned from Sharia SLuniverse like me.
In fact, when I advertised Oskar's Sword of Maturity before in my store in Ross, Prokofy's Odds 'N Ends, it wasn't there, but it is now. My store's items got returned due to some glitch and I have to get them put back. If you can't live without the FIC ring, there's my SL Marketplace store.
It's hard to know what to say about all this, and Oskar himself isn't saying much more, in fact, he's now, like a Stepford Wife, saying "Linden Lab is cotton candy and kittens, unicorns and rainbows." In fact, he could even find himself sued over telling the story of this griefer.
I wish that just once, just once, like this guy who left Goldman Sachs and told all, we'd get a guy who left the Lab and told the story of what really goes on there. Somebody who doesn't fear the lawsuits or the loss of income. But most of the relatively young people who worked there can't afford to kill off a severance paycheck, even if it involves only a month's pay or whatever, and most of them can't afford to spit into the well of Silicon Valley, which they must go on drinking from, and the unwritten rule there is, if not the written NDA you sign when you get employment, is that you can't disparage the company or the product or compete with it.
So you'll have to keep watching Glass Door for tid-bits, I guess...
And gosh, look at this creepy intervention from Tux Winkler (now permabanned on that account and back in SL under some other name):
It's not griefing when you are asked to demonstrate something . . . justsayin
Hmm, so is he the griefer that got on Oskar's private sandbox?
This concept of Oskar's private sandbox is, of course, something that no one seems to be commenting on, but should investigate. What does it mean for a Linden to have a "private sandbox"? Is this like how Torley used to just take over mainland sims for himself?
So some people get to go there, and some don't? So if somebody who once had access to this Linden's personal private stash then acts up on it, is it griefing, or it is, hmmm, a falling out between FIC and FICinator? Or? What's it all about?
